Kaspersky Lab and Symantec have discovered a new malware called Project Sauron that aims to attack through the espionage of governments, military, telecommunications companies and scientific research centers.
This virus steals passwords, addresses, and other data files that are have on computers, despite the security algorithms and encryption layers. Then, the virus is stored on a USB drive that Windows recognizes as “safe” to spread.
Project Sauron leaves different traces in each of the infected machines, which means that the data collected at one of the affected targets is not helping researchers discover other infections. The virus has been active since 2011 and had affected at least, 30 targets (Rusia, China, Sweden, Belgium,Iran,Rwanda… )
